How to start the process of downsizing your home:
Baby boomers, beloved seniors - this one's for you!
I know this is a topic or task that most like to avoid, put off and procrastinate. I'm here to help make it easier on you with some tips on tackling the [likely] copious amounts of 'stuff' you accumulated over the years.
  • Start small. I'd suggest 5-10 minutes a day to create momentum. Once you build it in as a routine and start to see results, it will encourage you to keep going.
  • Hire a professional. Yes, there are individuals out there that specialize in downsizing. Utilize their talents and experience and know that their job is to assist you in this big life transition.
  • Ask for help from your family. Regardless if they show it all the time or not, your family adores you and wants the best for your situation. Don't be afraid to reach out and lean on them for support.
  • Take your time. The whole thought of moving out of a home you've spent decades in can be daunting and mentally exhausting. Gift yourself the ability to really do this at your own pace and maybe start with one room at a time.
  • Apply your new space into the planning. How big is the place you're moving into and can you obtain a floor plan? This will do wonders for knowing what you have to work with.
  • Gift to those you love. Allow your family to pick and choose some heirlooms or memorabilia they may want to keep or restore. Passing down items will give you satisfaction that history is being maintained and that you don't have to sell or donate everything.
  • Arrange an estate sale or yard sale. Once you've decided what you want to keep, take with you, donate, give to family or throw out, the rest can be put aside to be sold. This might be mentally tough but always remember that our one constant in life is change - and we should look on that as an exciting opportunity.
  • Lastly, when you initially make the decision to take charge on your new adventure, give me a call and I can walk you through this entire list and more! Lean on me as I am a wealth of resources and have a lot of experience in transitioning clients into new spaces.

If you have any questions about downsizing, moving into a new home, prepping your property for sale, I'm always here to walk you through the process. Feel free to give me a call/text @ 403 999 8610 at any time to discuss or fill out the form below.
